Kottayam Public Library was established in 1882 and has completed 137 years of valuable service to the public of Kottayam town and surrounding areas. During the long period of its existence, the Library has grown from a “ Reading Room” in a small 2- room building to the present 3- units, with the main Library and Administrative office at Shastri Road, reading rooms in the heart of the town near the Gandhi Statue at Thirunakkara and the Children’s Library & Jawahar Balbhavan west of Thirunakkara Temple.
