Childline is India’s first national level response to its ratification of the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the child (CRC). The Childline 1098 service also receives a special mention in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015.

Childline India Foundation (CIF) is the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development acting as the parent organization for setting up, managing and monitoring the childline 1098 service all over the country. CIF is the sole agency / body responsible for establishing the childline service across the country, monitoring of service delivery and finance, training, research and documentation, creating awareness advocacy as well resource generation for the service.

Mission: - Childline will reach out to every child in need and ensure their rights and protection through the Four Cs.

Duties or Function

• 1. Case Intervention

  The Case reported on 1098 is redirected to respective districts from Chennai Call Centre and the child is approached as soon as possible and is provided with necessary services for the child.

  Which type of problems can be shared with childline?

  If you found a child:

  • Begging at the bus stand, railway station, public places etc.
  • Abandoned child.
  • Hazardous / Dangerous situation.
  • Affected with different types of abuses ( Physical, Emotional, Sexual ).
  • In need of emotional support and guidance.

• 2. Out reach

  It is a programme conducted by child line to aware the public about child line and its services through orally and by the distribution of notices, pamphlets and stickers.

  There are three types of outreach:-Individual, small, group

• 3. Awareness

  It is another important function of child line to provide awareness to children’s, parents, stakeholder’s (police, excise, anganwadi, kudumbasree and asha worker’s ) the following topics are included in the awareness class:- child line and it’s services , POCSO act , cyber crimes, child rights, adoption etc.

• 4. Open House

  It’s an open forum, where the children can share , discuss their problems with Panchayath, Police, Excise, Health, child welfare committee, District child protection unit, and find a proper solution for the issue concerned. We organize open house programme every month in respective panchayath/ municipality. Before conducting open house a mock open house and outreach programme is conducted at respective pamchayath/ municipality.
