Chemistry

Established in 2001 under the leadership of Prof. Gracy Joseph, the Department of Chemistry at St. Xavier's College, Vaikom, offers an undergraduate program, BSc Chemistry Model II, with Industrial Chemistry as a vocational course. This six-semester program, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, provides students with unique opportunities for project work at prestigious chemical industries and central research institutions. The department boasts collaborations with major research institutions and has signed multiple MoUs, along with having two UGC minor research projects to its credit. Committed to high standards of teaching and learning, the department focuses on fostering scientific temper and critical thinking through various initiatives, including invited talks, national seminars, international conferences, study tours, and industry visits. Additionally, it actively organizes inter-departmental and inter-collegiate activities through its chemistry association, enriching the academic and professional growth of its students.
