Data Center or Cloud Solutions- for your business?

Data Center or Cloud Solutions- for your business?

Posted On Mar 29, 2021

This one question has been one long-running question that does not have a fixed answer; just as in the case of which came first- egg or hen? Still, you can listen to many saying cloud is better or cloud is risky. In cases of the data center, you can hear they are quite a lot to invest in and all. Today, Comtech Systems, an IT Service Provider in Kochi, Kerala is attempting to clear all you think about data center and cloud computing.

It does not matter what business you have, but we can predict that your business for sure has data. No big deal! You don’t need to be Nostradamus to predict this. It is a common thing. What varies is the size of data, how common you need to access data, how many backups you need for data matters. Let us say, for a finance firm the data must be thinner than in the case of a media channel that has a considerable amount of data. Whatever is the case, data storage and processing is required for every business. For that, we have two systems today- the traditional data center solutions and modern cloud networking.

Data Center- Pros & Cons

A data center is a group of servers connected to systems, routers and other technical elements to carry out 3 major works- computing, storing and networking. Here, individual owners have to undergo the complete process of setting up of data centers.

Pros

1. You get complete authority for your data

2. You do not need to depend on or give access to other parties for data processing

3. Security levels are stronger and are independent of providers

4. Customizations, as you prefer, can be made to the data center

5. Hardware installed can be used for expanding needs of the business

Cons

1. Need to hire a team to manage the data systems and for maintenance

2. Hardware to purchase can be costly

3. Require additional servers to bring newly installed hardware to online

4. Requires room to place the hardware and may need to place in more than one location

Cloud Services- Pros & Cons

Cloud Computing Services offers users to store, compute and process their database to a vendor’s data center. It is just like when you need a machinery to do the task and you cannot afford the cost of that machinery, then you take the machinery for rent. Major cloud service providers include global corporates such as Google data center, Microsoft data center, AWS data center, Azure data center and more. Cloud Computing is expected to expand in future years. But not everything that is associated with cloud networking is positive.

Pros

1. Pay for what you use

2. Access data over internet from anywhere

3. Do not need complex systems, hardware and server

4. No IT department is needed to manage cloud computing technology

5. Multiple backups of data is taken making data recovery services easier

6. Competitive prices for Cloud Server hosting

7. Qualified team handles your data

Cons

1. Have to give control to a second party cloud solution provider

2. Security concerns matter as for most cloud backup services you are responsible for your data

3. Strength of Internet connectivity matters- lower connectivity can be issue for accessing certain data

4. Cloud migrations should be handled with caution. Any errors can cause loss in data

5. Legal agreements between users and Cloud Service Providers can be complicated

So, before you choose between Data Center & Cloud Solutions ask the following questions to yourself-

1. Do my business or my need has more data to store and access?

- If yes, try virtual private cloud for affordable options. Think well as some cloud networking services are costly than owning data center.

- If no, calculate the amount of data, if the data is less- you can choose to setup a data center by your office.

2. Am I okay in sharing my control over my data with others?

- If yes, online cloud storage is available in different packages that are affordable.

- If no, try for data center or base cloud networking packages based on your estimate.

3. Can I manage with a IT Department?

- If yes, Data center provides secure solutions over your data with instant time accessibility and security.

- If no, you have to depend on the cloud solution provider’s team. Remember you have to act in accordance with their rules and regulations.

4. Am I ready to act in accordance with legal terms?

- If yes, read and understand the legal agreements you have to go through

- If no, data centres are your best solution. Else you could also opt through different cloud solutions available in the market that gives less restrictions and more flexibility.
