Google faces a $5 billion class action complaint in the US over claims that user information was obtained also in incognito mode through the Chrome Web browser.
The case demands penalties of at least $5,000 per person for violations of US wiretapping regulations, as well as local California privacy regulations.
The complaint, filed in a federal court in San Jose, California, claims that Google gathers data for
analytics purposes, regardless of whether users click on Google-supported ads and regardless of

extracts user browsing history and other web interaction data no matter what precautions users
pursue to protect their data privacy", the plaintiffs allege. According to Reuters, Google has
denied the accusations,

According to the Reuters, Google has denied the accusations,
saying that it will protect itself aggressively against the charges. In an official statement, Jose C Castaneda, a Google spokesperson, said: "We firmly deny these statements, "We will actively protect ourselves against them." He did not deny, though, that even in Incognito mode, certain websites could still access browsing data. "As we specifically mentioned any time you open a new incognito tab, websites will be able to gather information about your browsing activities," he stated.
